Strange Signs of Nature

According to Wikipedia, a sun dog or sundog (scientific name parhelion, plural parhelia, from "beside the sun"; also called a mock sun) is an atmospheric phenomenon that creates bright spots of light in the sky, often on a luminous ring or halo on either side of the sun.

I was lucky enough to catch one of these puppies (no pun intended...well, ok, it was) on camera. They've always sort of amazed me.


[12/11/09 - I stand corrected. Evidently the phenomenon I caught is actually called a halo. A sun dog is a bright light to the left and/or right of the sun. You learn something new every day.]
